Admittedly, for reasons I care not to discuss here, I didn't invest a lot of emotion into this election cycle. What has disappointed me most about this election isn't the election results despite my opposition to Trump but the behavior of friends, peers, and acquaintances. I've seen friends, relatives, and in-laws burn bridges on long-term relationships for nothing more than the sake to showing their anger against another one's viewpoint via social media. I can survive four years of Trump, but witnessing the lack of respect people are showing one another is a much more difficult hurdle for me to go through emotionally and spiritually.</p> <p>I wrote in comment on another friends post that I think a lot of the discussion of late is the results of both sides demonizing the other side and refusing to acknowledge the human side of the equation. Neither Trump or Clinton are evil people yet many have come to believe such is true about the opposing candidate. When you take this approach it ultimately backfires on you and as a whole on our nation. Anger can be a good tool for motivation, but when we display hatred toward others we really have gone too far.</p> <p>I am encouraged with Obama's words and actions yesterday in acknowledgement that Trump will be our next President. Of all people, Obama had every right to dislike Trump yet he put his emotions aside out of respect for the Office of the Presidency and the will of the American people. On Wednesday I marveled at how Clinton did indeed take the high road and asked her supporters to give Trump the opportunity to lead as President. This is what makes America so special and I know we'll be just fine. So instead of worrying about Trump, I'm going to use the time to focus on family and friends while affirming who I am. It's a much happier endeavor than a life obsessed by politics and ideology. </p></div> <div class="sharethis-wrapper"><span st_url="https://bryanruby.com/beware-burning-bridges-social-media-1993" st_title="Beware of Burning Bridges via Social Media" class="st_facebook_large" displayText="facebook"></span> <span st_url="https://bryanruby.com/beware-burning-bridges-social-media-1993" st_title="Beware of Burning Bridges via Social Media" class="st_twitter_large" st_via="MrBryanRuby" st_username="" displayText="twitter"></span> <span st_url="https://bryanruby.com/beware-burning-bridges-social-media-1993" st_title="Beware of Burning Bridges via Social Media" class="st_googleplus_large" displayText="googleplus"></span> <span st_url="https://bryanruby.com/beware-burning-bridges-social-media-1993" st_title="Beware of Burning Bridges via Social Media" class="st_linkedin_large" displayText="linkedin"></span> <span st_url="https://bryanruby.com/beware-burning-bridges-social-media-1993" st_title="Beware of Burning Bridges via Social Media" class="st_email_large" displayText="email"></span> </div><section rel="schema:comment"> <h2>Add new comment</h2> <drupal-render-placeholder callback="comment.lazy_builders:renderForm" arguments="0=node&amp;1=1993&amp;2=comment&amp;3=comment" token="HJp7Gh0qYN57LN12EWPvQt7i8r5tOqo5ttHMOKr0Nrk"></drupal-render-placeholder> </section> <div class="field field--name-field-disqus field--type-disqus-comment field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Disqus</div> <div class="field--item"><drupal-render-placeholder callback="Drupal\disqus\Element\Disqus::displayDisqusComments" arguments="0=Beware%20of%20Burning%20Bridges%20via%20Social%20Media&amp;1=https%3A//bryanruby.com/beware-burning-bridges-social-media-1993&amp;2=node/1993" token="Xwb_tBZ2hOYvjqlv4QpHOiy4BGBCBoQG4lVMwhNNXy0"></drupal-render-placeholder></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-tags field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Tags</div> <div class="field--items"> <div class="field--item"><a href="/tags/government" property="schema:about" hreflang="en">Government</a></div> <div class="field--item"><a href="/tags/thoughts" property="schema:about" hreflang="en">Thoughts</a></div> <div class="field--item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/94" property="schema:about" hreflang="en">Politics</a></div> <div class="field--item"><a href="/tags/social-media" property="schema:about" hreflang="en">Social Media</a></div> </div> </div> Sat, 12 Nov 2016 00:54:18 +0000 Bryan Ruby 1993 at https://bryanruby.com GOP declares victory to soon in VP Presidential debate https://bryanruby.com/gop-declares-victory-soon-vp-presidential-debate-1992 <span property="schema:name">GOP declares victory to soon in VP Presidential debate</span> <div class="field field--name-field-image field--type-image field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Image</div> <div class="field--items"> <div class="field--item"> <img property="schema:image" src="/sites/default/files/field/image/vpgoptoosoon.jpg" width="956" height="1200" alt="Pulled from GOP.com" typeof="foaf:Image" class="img-responsive" /> </div> </div> </div> <span rel="schema:author"><span lang="" about="/users/bryan-ruby" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="">Bryan Ruby</span></span> <span property="schema:dateCreated" content="2016-10-04T23:50:40+00:00">Tue, 10/04/2016 - 18:50</span> <div property="schema:text" class="field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field--item"><p>Why hiring someone qualified to run your content management system is important. In the study, <a href="http://www.michigan.gov/">Michigan's site</a> earned top marks. </p> <p>According to the <a href="http://computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&amp;articleId=274253&amp;intsrc=hm_list">article</a>, the "the e-government report card is based on an extensive examination of 11,227 official government Web sites." Sites were judged on 25 criteria, including "whether people could use them to pay taxes, bid for contracts, find government jobs and complain to local officials about concerns such as potholes." Also included in the article was a <a href="http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&amp;articleId=9005371" target="_blank">report card</a> summarizing other top e-government performers among city, state, and local sites.</p> <p>What separated the winners from the losers?</p> <!--break--> <blockquote><p>The highest grades generally went to Web sites on which a wide range of services could easily be found on the home page instead of being buried several pages deep, said Robert McArthur, the NPRC’s e-government project director. </p> <p> Michigan has made nearly 300 online services available on its Web site, and they’re heavily used, according to Jim Hogan, information officer at the Michigan Department of Information Technology in Lansing.</p> </blockquote> <p>Incidentally, the Michigan site apparently runs on the propriety <a href="http://www.vignette.com/">Vignette</a> content management system. However, majority of the other site I surveyed on the report card looked as if they were built in-house. The use of an in-house built portal isn't too surprising when you consider many of these portals are piecing together legacy department sites that likely used various generation of Web technologies. Put it this way <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iframe">iframe</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Server-side_include">server side includes</a> are being utilized a lot by some of these government portals.</p> <p>I didn't come across a site on the list that looks as if it was built with an open-source CMS. That's not to say there aren't top government sites running an open-source CMS...I just didn't come across one.</p> </div> <div class="sharethis-wrapper"><span st_url="https://bryanruby.com/creating-e-government-right-way-1392" st_title="Creating E-government the right way" class="st_facebook_large" displayText="facebook"></span> <span st_url="https://bryanruby.com/creating-e-government-right-way-1392" st_title="Creating E-government the right way" class="st_twitter_large" st_via="MrBryanRuby" st_username="" displayText="twitter"></span> <span st_url="https://bryanruby.com/creating-e-government-right-way-1392" st_title="Creating E-government the right way" class="st_googleplus_large" displayText="googleplus"></span> <span st_url="https://bryanruby.com/creating-e-government-right-way-1392" st_title="Creating E-government the right way" class="st_linkedin_large" displayText="linkedin"></span> <span st_url="https://bryanruby.com/creating-e-government-right-way-1392" st_title="Creating E-government the right way" class="st_email_large" displayText="email"></span> </div><section rel="schema:comment"> <h2>Add new comment</h2> <drupal-render-placeholder callback="comment.lazy_builders:renderForm" arguments="0=node&amp;1=1392&amp;2=comment&amp;3=comment" token="vp67uN5-1Mbz3BU5ZG3W6LneEpVUCHqrRDIXsmZkKW8"></drupal-render-placeholder> </section> <div class="field field--name-field-tags field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Tags</div> <div class="field--items"> <div class="field--item"><a href="/tags/government" property="schema:about" hreflang="en">Government</a></div> <div class="field--item"><a href="/tags/information-technology" property="schema:about" hreflang="en">Information Technology</a></div> <div class="field--item"><a href="/tags/thoughts" property="schema:about" hreflang="en">Thoughts</a></div> </div> </div> Tue, 28 Nov 2006 06:03:00 +0000 Bryan Ruby 1392 at https://bryanruby.com
